Low and behold Spirit had a few gluten free options a mile high!
It had been one of those travel days where I hadn't had time to grab a proper breakfast. The hotel I stayed out didn't have an onsite restaurant nor did it offer any to-go continental breakfasts. That's my first personal travel sign. Always book a hotel with a restaurant onsite. As a lady traveling often alone I do not want to have to leave the building to get some grub.
I figured I'd catch something the airport, but in Vegas the Spirit Terminal only has a few little sandwich shops, a sit down bar and a coffee shop. I opted for a Chai Late from the Dunkin Donuts and tried to tough it out until I'd arrive home in a few hours.
Naturally, once in the air I was desperate for even a little bit of sustenance since it was now lunch time. Once again, I forgot about the three emergency protein bars I keep in my back pack.

Thankfully Spirit did have a few items on their snack menu that were free of gluten ingredients. You and I both know I'm taking a chance if it doesn't state certified gluten free on the packaging, but in this instance there was no mention of shared lines so I was feeling optimistic. Plus corn products are more likely to be clean, so I gladly ordered the little chips and salsa pack along with a Tito's and soda.
The bag was about the usual size of a bag of single serve chips and the salsa was a generous amount. I'm a salsa hog on my chips and I still had plenty left over.
Was it the best chips and salsa? Nope, not a chance. It had a heavy tomato sauce flavor to it, like the Hunts Tomato Sauce you'd cook with, but it was certainly more than edible. I should also caveat that I'm a picky chips and salsa eater. I love the combo and eat it often! I'd likely order this again if I was in a pinch! Thank you Spirit Airlines! Hope to see you continue to expand more gluten free options on your in-flight menu.
